Correction: WA State DHS Still Planning on Jumping into the Abyss

Just got this email from CMS: Hi Dr. Riner – it’s me again.  Apparently the information we received indicating that WA was postponing their April 1 prohibition of “non-emergent” services in the ER was wrong.  The State is still moving ahead with that timeline.  So we’re jumping back into the fray.  I wanted to close the loop with you, so you wouldn’t hear conflicting information from other channels.  Thanks. News Flash: WA DHS Steps Back from the Abyss on ER Care

News Flash:  According to an Acting Deputy Director at CMS, Melissa Harris,  CMS was “notified yesterday by our Seattle Regional Office that Washington has decided not to implement their ER payment prohibition on “non-emergent” conditions on April 1.  They are determining whether/when to go forward.  No additional details, like what led to this decision.  This has brought temporary relief, but no one presumes that the conversation is over.” This is certainly welcome news, but as … Continue reading
